ADOPTION INFORMATION

  • If you think you might be interested in adopting a bunny, please read our ADOPTION CONTRACT to see what is required.
  • If you are inexperienced with rabbits, we suggest that you look at the links above which will help you decide if a rabbit is the right pet for you.
  • Please note that our adoption fee is $65 per rabbit, which is a bargain for a neutered or spayed rabbit and only partly defrays our vet costs (our fosterers themselves often volunteer to help with the vet expenses).
  • Before contacting us for information about our adoptable rabbits, please cut and paste our ADOPTION APPLICATION into a blank mail message, fill it out, and email it to Davida (Chapter Manager). If you are under 18, please have a parent or guardian fill out the application.
  • We list several contacts for each foster rabbit so that we can return your message more quickly. If you click on a contact link, the addresses of all the contacts will be separated by commas in the "To" line of the message. You may need to change the commas to semicolons depending on your mail system.
  • If you are interested in adopting, then please print out and complete an ADOPTION CONTRACT.   Thanks.
NYSHRS is committed to our rescue work. This means that our foster homes are full with bunnies that have NO SAFE PLACE - they are either strays or "overflow" from shelters. WE CANNOT TAKE RABBITS FROM IN-HOME SITUATIONS. We can help with rabbit behavior issues, and sometimes behaviors are simply a result of the need for spay/neuter. However, if you have moved or cannot keep your rabbit, NYSHRS suggest you advertize through local veterinarian offices and NEVER offer your rabbit for free. Carefully screen callers, provide care information from our national website, and personally visit the new prospective home.
