Q:   Why Adopt A Rabbit?

One FAQ is "why should I adopt a foster rabbit rather than buy one from a pet store or breeder?"

A:   There are many good reasons:

  1. Save a bunny. There is an overpopulation of rabbits. Many shelters and foster homes are full. There is little space available for rabbits that are surrendered to shelters or found as strays. Sadly, healthy rabbits in shelters are being euthanized for lack of homes.
  2. Get an experienced house rabbit. HRS foster bunnies live in the homes of volunteers who teach them how to be house rabbits. Generally, foster bunnies are litterbox trained and accustomed to handling.
  3. Get a support network. HRS fosterers will work with inexperienced adopters to help them with rabbit training, diet, and health issues.
  4. Get a better pet. There are many reasons why a spayed or neutered rabbit is a better pet. Undesirable behavior such as chewing and urine spraying are hormonely controlled and are reduced or eliminated by spaying or neutering. More reasons. HRS rabbits are spayed or neutered as soon as they are old and healthy enough. The adoption fee or a spayed for neutered rabbit is usually less than the cost of purchasing and then spaying or neutering a rabbit.
