Baby Foster Rabbits for Adoption

Please remember to send us an adoption application before contacting us about adopting a rabbit - thanks. If you are under 18, please have a parent or guardian fill out the application.

Please note that all bunnies are available for adoption from anywhere in NY state. The locations below only refer to the approximate location of their rescue and don't neccessarily mean where they are currently being fostered. Please consider all the babies listed no matter where in the state you are located!

Syracuse NY Babies

We are fortunate to have a dedicated volunteer at CNYSPCA each week, Bob Graham. Bob and Inv. Pulaski contacted the CM during the last week in August to request help with a reported abandonment of 6-10 bunnies in a dense, swampy area, with five foot high vegetation and numerous predators. Someone callous, who couldn’t be bothered to drive the rabbits to a shelter, had simply dumped them off to die.

Over a week, a team composed of Annie-Laurie, Bob G. , Amy, Shannon and family, and Bob L. went out nightly to feed, spot and catch the ones they could. 10 rabbits were recovered. One was found dead at the site. There are 4 adults and 6 babies..one baby who was very frail died the day after rescue.

They are being nurtured in foster care and we are accepting applications for adoption.

Poplar, Aster and Milkweed are white, Lacey is gray and Mugwart and Goldenrod are brown/agouti.

Western NY Babies

Fiona gave birth to nine kits, each about 4” long, on July 20, 2010. She had been abandoned and there was evidence that she had given birth 4-6 weeks before she was rescued. She is a dark chocolate-brown mini-rex who loves people. She is mellow and looks forward to naps laying on the back of your neck while you watch TV. Fiona has found a forever home and will be moving there as soon as her kits are big enough to be separated from her.

The rabbit's names are Blake, Logan, Morgan, Kenzie, Jamie, Corey, Finley, Sidney, Ambrose

We will be posting updated photos of the babies regularly, so please come back and visit us.

Central NY Babies

During oppressive 95 degree heat in mid July we were called to assist with a rescue in Central NY. A backyard “pet” setup had gone awry. Originally starting with one unneutered male and one unspayed female, over a year there had been litter after litter after litter. The rabbits were being housed outside, in a semifenced area near a shed, with a tiny hutch, living in the dirt. They were so crowded that they were tunnelling in different directions. Aside from a profound urine smell, and layers of feces, we were informed that they’d never been fed pellets or hay. They’d been subsisting on grass and stale pizza.

Many of the litters had not survived.

That day and the next, we collected 18 rabbits. A 19th had gotten out and been killed by the family’s dog prior to the rescue. All were set up, marked, sexed, and settled in comfortably in temporary digs at a local shelter /sanctuary, which was already overloaded with rabbits for adoption. That weekend, one of the females had a litter of 4. There are possibly 2 other females in late pregnancy.

Several of these rescues were moved to foster space with THE Rabbit Resource. The smallest babies, who are about 4-5 weeks old, are pictured here. HRN of Mass stepped in and took 2 mature males who are bonded and the mama and newborns into foster care. We are still seeking foster homes for the remaining rabbits. If you are interested please fill out an application from our website and email to the chapter manager.

The babies with THE RR will be available for adoption around mid-September. We’d much prefer that they be adopted as pairs, as they are very bonded, but we will , of course, consider single adoptions. Adopters will have to work with us on a 1:1 basis to arrange to have their buns spayed and neutered when they are old enough at a veterinarian who works with us. Adoption fees will be adjusted based upon arrangements.

Their names are: Amelia, River Song, Elena, Sadie, Shiloh, and Serena

Capital Region Babies

These bunnies were rescued recently in Capital Region by volunteer Anthony along with help from other bunny people and neighbors. Unfortunately someone decided to abandon a mama rabbit in a highly trafficked, residential area, where there are major risks of bunnies being hurt by dogs, hit by cars, or simply dying of dehydration, parasites, or improper nutrition/starvation. The rescue effort is ongoing as more are still out there.

These bunnies are all about 11-12 weeks old. 2 are boys, 2 are girls. The boys will be ready for neuter soon and will be available for adoption around mid-September. We will work with adopters on the girls, who will not be old enough to spay until age 6 months. We are accepting applications NOW.
