~ Happy Trails Update for Renny ~

I adopted Renny just over two months ago, and I couldn't be a happier bunny mama. I have always loved bunnies for as long as I can remember and after graduating from college, I decided now was a great time to adopt. For those who don't know Renny James' story, I'll give you a brief background. Renny has a condition called malocclusion, which causes his teeth to grow in crookedly and makes it challenging for him to eat and wear down his teeth naturally as other rabbits do. He had surgery to get his front incisors removed because they had grown beyond repair. But this didn't phase this spunky bundle of energy.

His foster mom kept him comfortable after his surgery and gave him shots to treat an infection prior to my adoption. We all hoped this was the last hurdle he would have to go through before enjoying a healthy life.

Not long after I adopted Renny, I noticed that he didn't seem quite right. His eyes were very goopy all the time and his little nose was runny. After taking him to the vet I learned that one of his back molars had become overgrown. The vet explained to me how this can happen as a domino effect if he had trouble with his front teeth and was chewing differently to compensate for them. We began another round of shots to clear another infection from this overgrown tooth, and I started to notice a huge improvement in my handsome little bunny! What a busy first two months as a new mom!!

Now Renny is doing great and is adjusting nicely into our family of four. He likes to sneak into my parents room while I get ready for work in the morning and hang out under their bed. He always waits till I'm not looking...I think he knows he's not supposed to be in there :D Renny has an exercise pen with a liner for a home in my bedroom, but I very rarely have the door closed so he has free range of my bunny-proofed room. Litter training took him some time to get used to in the new environment, but I am happy to say he is a smart potty-trained bunny. He likes to run behind my furniture in circles and sometimes at night he will jump on my bed and wake me up to be petted or for food!

I can't imagine my life without my little bunny to welcome me home everyday. He has such a sweet personality and makes me laugh all the time. He is an inspiration of perseverance when I think about all he's been through.

I am looking forward to many more years of playing with my sweet little Renny James.
