Unfortunately, many veterinarians have received minimal training in the care of rabbits. Treatments that are appropriate for dogs and cats can be injurious, even fatal, to a rabbit. For example, oral amoxicillin has killed pet rabbits who were treated by ill-informed vets.
While they may be well-intentioned, you should not assume that all vets will give proper care to your bunny. It's important to make certain your veterinarian is knowledgeable about the care of rabbits.
